Introduction: Many patients in deprived areas die or become irreversible due to lack of treatment or lack of timely and inadequate services. Therefore, managing an inter-hospital transmission system can not only help reduce risks and costs, but properly implement it will help reform the countrychr('39')s health care system.
Materials and Methods: The present study is a retrospective descriptive study using trend analysis. The study population consisted of all inpatient dispatches to hospitals of Kohkiloyeh and Boyer Ahmad University of Medical Sciences, number of intensive care beds and physicians over a five year period. The sampling method was census and the instruments used were data collection, registry and archives of these patients. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation coefficient.
Results: During 5 years (2009 to 2013) 4635 inter-hospital dispatches were performed. There was a significant correlation between the rate of dispatch and the number of specialist and general practitioners (P <0.001). The most common cause was the shortage of specialists in thoracic, vascular, neurosurgical, specialty beds and specialized wards.
Conclusion: Proper planning to provide the specialist staff needed and tailor the number of physicians and hospital equipment and other specialized facilities to meet the needs of an area avoids waste of staff, heavy costs and the complications of patient transfers.
