Introduction: Re-engineering processes is one of the best ways that leads to reducing the time, costs and finally earning more satisfaction by reforming method of carrying out research activities. This study aimed to reform approval process of research projects in clinical research unit of Baqiyatallah hospital.

Material and Methods: This qualitative action research study was performed in 2015 in the research department of Baqiyatallah Hospital. The sample size included all process owners and partners. Data were included documents and interviews to identify bottlenecks. All work stages of status quo were recorded. After that, the streamlining process were also recorded using standard diagram optimized workflow. Results were analyzed with Excel 2007.

Results: Process activities were classified in six parameter: decision, archive, delay, inspection, transportation, and operations. All current approval process were carried out by 83 activities. By implementing reengineering and simplifying it, were reduced to 63 activities.

Conclusion:  Re-engineering and simplification of the process lead to reduce activity, saving time and reducing waste time researchers.
