امروزه زنان بسیاری تمایل دارند در دوران بارداری ورزش کنند. با توجه به اهمیت این دوره از زندگی، مطالعه حاضر به منظور بررسی تأثیرات ورزش بر بارداری و توصیه هایی که بایستی مورد توجه قرار گیرد، انجام شد. با توجه به مطالعات، علیرغم تغییرات فیزیولوژیکی و آناتومیکی در بارداری، فعالیت بدنی در بهبود آمادگی قلبی عروقی، پیشگیری از اضافه وزن، جلوگیری از افزایش فشار خون، کنترل دیابت بارداری، کاهش علائم افسردگی و کاهش شیوع ماکروزومی جنین و کوتاه شدن مرحله فعال زایمان موثر است. با توجه دستورالعمل‌ها در صورت عدم وجود عوارض مامایی ، 30 دقیقه ورزش هوازی با شدت متوسط 3-4 بار در هفته در بارداری توصیه می‌شود. بعد از زایمان، زمان شروع ورزش به توانایی فرد، نوع زایمان و وجود عوارض پزشکی یا جراحی بستگی دارد. با توجه به یافته ها، ورزش در حفظ سلامت مادر وجنین مفید است و زنان باردار مانند زنان غیر باردار می‌توانند ورزش کنند و از مزایای سلامتی آن برخوردار گردند.
